"coming home again" dialogue
The importance of food in this essay is not only the food, but the meaning behind the taste and smell. When he thinks of food it reminds him of his mother. Each recipe is has many different elements to making the dish. All the components are all the reasons why he holds his mother so dear to his heart. Food would also remind him of the time when he was home and when his mother was alive.
I believe that food is an important aspect in all of our lives. It brings people together, sometimes memories or it makes a special occasion. No matter how many dishes are set on the table, the only thing that matters is who’s sitting around it.

ReplyDeleteI love what you said in your last sentence, that its does not matter what its on the table, what matters is who is sitting around it, I think that is to true. No matter what as long as you have your family and the people around you that you love and share a special bond with, at the end of the day that is all that matters, this is what matter to this family, all they had was each other, and good cooked meals from there mother, and just because she was sick the boy made sure that he kept that bond going and cooked out of the passion of his mother. I think that she passed in peace knowing that her family did all that they could to keep things as normal as possible even though she was terribly ill.

ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with your position on this topic. Food is a major factor in bringing people closer and together at times. In this story when the times got hard, this family used food to lift their spirits because it reminded them of their mother and when she was healthy. Your last sentence is completely true, family is what matters. At the end of the day when everything seems hopeless you have your family to fall back on and you know they will always be there for you. This is very true in this story because they all made sacrifices for the mother to make her happy in the last stages of her life.
Great point Penny. Food brought this family closer just like it does all families. It's interesting that the only time my whole family is together at once is when we are around the table on a special occasion. Food reminds us of our families and just like he was reminded of his mother. I liked how he described his childhood memories to his audience which was the making of the food and the time he spent with his mother. That really let the audience know that food was an important factor in his family.

ReplyDeleteAt my family gatherings, usually my parents cook but now we are learning the secrets. My parents love cooking soul food, which is our comfort food. They even opened a restaurant on Piner road called the Red Rose Cafe. You should try it. I like that now everyone can go there and eat the food that we always had on our special occasions.
